Michael Campbell, a graduate candidate in the Joint Graduate Program in Toxicology (JGPT), participated in a two-week immersive training program this past summer at the renowned Marine Biological Laboratory (MBL) in Woods Hole, Massachusetts. The program focused on endocrine-disrupting chemicals including phthalates, bisphenols, and PFAS and their impacts on both marine ecosystems and human health. Through hands-on laboratory practicals, participants applied their toxicology knowledge using unique marine model organisms, such as the starlet sea anemone (Nematostella vectensis), gaining insight into how these contaminants affect biological systems. The experience fostered interdisciplinary collaboration, offering rich opportunities to engage with epidemiologists, chemists, and environmental scientists from across the world. This training was made possible through the generous financial support of the Marine Biological Laboratory.
