The Graduate Research Fellowship in Toxicology from Bristol-Myers Squibb Co. supports students involved in pre-clinical, in vivo toxicology research. Fourth year Ph.D. candidate Raj Shah was chosen to be the 2018-2019 recipient of this competitive fellowship. Raj will perform research under the guidance and mentorship of Dr. Suzie Chen to investigate the relationship between glutamatergic signaling cascades mediated by metabotropic glutamate receptor 1 (GRM1) and altered glutamate bioavailability in a melanoma model. This research may contribute to the development of cancer therapeutics aimed at mitigating GRM1-induced metabolic alterations in melanoma patients. The Fellowship will support Raj’s research costs, stipend, and allow for personalized mentoring from expert scientists at Bristol-Myers Squibb.
