The Parkinson’s Foundation Visiting Scholar Award supports research on Parkinson’s disease (PD) by providing funding for students to visit a host laboratory. Second year Ph.D. student Peri Rose (A. Bernstein lab) was a recipient of the Visiting Scholar Award this year. Her research focuses on how developmental dieldrin exposure increases susceptibility to PD-related insults. The goal of this project is to determine the effects of dieldrin exposure on inflammasome priming and activation in the α-synuclein preformed fibril model (PFF). The funds provided by this award will support Peri’s visit to the De Miranda lab at the University of Alabama at Birmingham for training in the PFF model.
