Dr. Cody Smith was recently awarded a K99/R00 Pathway to Independence Grant from the National Institute for Environmental Health Sciences to facilitate his transition from his mentored research position to an independent faculty position. He will be studying how estrogen receptor signaling regulates macrophage activity and lung injury and inflammation in response to inhaled ozone. The goal of this research is to increase our understanding of how sex and sex hormones modulate lung diseases caused by environmental exposures and to better inform regulatory guidelines for exposure.
