Second Year PhD student Kevin Ozkuyumcu was selected as a Team Lead for the highly competitive NJ Governor’s STEM Scholars Program earlier this academic year. As a Team Lead, Kevin led 4 exemplary high school students in the development of a STEM-driven, local community solution for a problem facing the globe following the UN Sustainability Goals framework. They proposed a solution under UN Goal #3 – Good Health and Well-Being. His team conducted both a systematic literature review and a study evaluating the potential use of white noise as a non-pharmacological sleep aid alternative. Kevin’s team presented their work on May 11th, 2024, at the Governor’s STEM Scholars 2024 Research Showcase where they were awarded the 1 of 3 awards: The Civic Award.
