Chenghui Jiang, a fourth-year PhD candidate in Dr. Lauren Aleksunes’ laboratory, completed a highly competitive 12-week internship this summer in the Pharmacokinetics, Dynamics, Metabolism, and Bioanalytics (PDMB) department at Merck & Co., West Point, Pennsylvania. During this experience, she advanced her research, gained hands-on training with innovative techniques and state-of-the-art instrumentation, and aimed at improving our understanding of how transporters impact drug development. Her research addressed important scientific gaps in preclinical studies essential to the drug pipeline. Throughout the internship, Chenghui deepened her expertise in transporter function, pharmacokinetics, and liver physiology, while also collaborating closely with a team of dedicated scientists. The technical skills and insights she developed will directly inform and strengthen her doctoral thesis. On August 7, 2025, Chenghui delivered her final internship presentation, showcasing her findings and contributions to a company-wide audience. She plans to present these results at an upcoming scientific conference in 2026. This experience not only enhanced her technical and professional skillset but also broadened her perspective on the pharmaceutical industry and the drug development process.
