Dr. Lauren Walker joined the JGPT as a postdoctoral fellow in the Aleksunes laboratory in 2019. As part of her appointment, Dr. Walker was named a Scala Scholar. The Scala award, honoring Dr. Robert A. Scala, is bestowed upon top predoctoral and postdoctoral candidates for their outstanding contributions to the field of toxicology. Robert A. Scala, MS, PhD is a preeminent toxicologist who served as Senior Scientific Advisor of Exxon Biomedical Sciences Corp and as Adjunct Professor at Rutgers University. Dr. Scala was Past President of the Society of Toxicology and has received numerous awards during his career. Dr. Scala remains a strong advocate of the JGPT and for his dedication to Rutgers, an award was established in his name to support excellent trainees in the toxicology program.
